Born in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, Lisyanet Rodríguez is an upcoming visual artist whose story begins with painting techniques studies in her native town. She has a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) in La Habana, and her work has been exhibited in Cuba, California, Kentucky, Portugal, London, Italy, and most recently in Miami FL. with her solo exhibition “The Golden mourning".In 2014 she was awarded an artistic residency by the Djerassi Program in Woodside CA where she had the opportunity to have her first solo exhibition in the US called "Brutal Light." Since then, her work has also been showcased at the Laundromat Art Space in Miami, the Isolo17 Gallery in Italy, the Kendall Art Center and Hollywood Art Culture Center in FL, and the Moremen Moloney Contemporary Gallery in Louisville KY, among others. She has been living in Miami for over five years now.
Lisyanet's work is based on the premise that art can be "simultaneously beautiful and troubling" and reflects on the concept of beauty and the ambiguities within it. By creating objects that seem tender, homely, but possibly menacing, she makes evident how suffering, pain, violence, and deformity converge on our own vulnerability. Rodriguez's work expresses a non-traditional sense of beauty constantly reminding us that "nothing is ever as beautiful, never as bad.”
